What are some good items to buy/bring in for your dorm room? Any atypical things that you would suggest?

Your residential college will send you an O-Week book with information on what to bring. However, I personally recommend bringing an extension cord.

A power strip is also useful. Beyond that, I don’t think I needed anything that wasn’t typical dorm room fare. Your O-Week book will give you more specific information. Also, space regulation vary by college, so that will also affect what you buy for your room.

They will take you to the Super Target a bazillion times during O-week. That said, one thing to bring with you ahead of time are hangers!

Homey touches like a quilt or long-time comforter, some mementos, and scrapbooks filled with photos of people you want to remember while you’re at school. A small flashlight for reading in bed …

Id say bring a second monitor and run the laptop on extended desktop. Is very useful for schoolwork

Don’t bring too much stuff. Everyone does.

And don’t bring too many t-shirts, you’ll get a lot for free (but still bring some. some of my friends brought like 2 t-shirts and found that he had to continually do laundry for a month because the influx of free t-shirts never really got to him that quickly).

Also, don’t bring EVERYTHING it says to bring in your O-week book (I know it says it recommends you to bring these things); you won’t need half of it. Chances are, someone will bring it and you can mooch off of them.
Just be smart about it unless you want your stuff to collect dust in your room.

I guess I’m kinda biased because I have a lot of junk with me nowadays…

Don’t forget duct tape!

why do you need duct tape???

Why wouldn’t you need duct tape?

Seriously, the number of times I found myself glad I had duct tape, or frantically searching for it if I didn’t have it…

Duct tape.

Interesting fact —*There was more than half a mile of duct/gorilla tape in Lovett’s Casino Party fa

Duct tape is good for anything and everything. Recall visiting parents weekend and seeing the exit sign in the hall precariously held up and together with… duct tape.

yeah, i guess people keep using duct tape on walls.

Get some good masking tape. Duct tape makes a giant mess

The exit sign was the same color as the duct tape-- and not taped to the wall but to itself… as it hung at a precarious angle from the wall…

im sorry, what?? (not sure what you are talking about)

The exit sign suspended from the hall ceiling, IIRC, was a victim of an indoor frisbee game.

No to worry-- that was years ago. Just bring duct tape… especially if you are a guy.

There’s lots of things that you might have to make a target run to grab but there’s plenty of opportunities to do that.

Your O-Week advisors will drive you to Target whenever. It’s basically a part of the job description. I brought way too much stuff my freshman year and it’s just a pain…to store, to organize, to keep clean, to figure out what to do with at the end of the year…you get the point.
