What to do about recommendations...!?

Short story was a freshman at PSU (got a 3.0ish) was severly unhappy so I'm at the comm college for the spring semester... How do I go about getting recs for them? We don't even start school until...Jan 24th so the teachers will hardly know me by the time I ask and I'm applying to 12 or so different schools so idk this is normal isn't it?

When applying for a soph transfer, students usually get LORs from instructors they had fall semester due to the lack of time between when spring semester starts and when most applications are due.

Oh… I don’t really have that option though due to not being at Penn state anymore… Is that the only way?

You can always ask current instructors, but with your school starting so late, needing to give them a little lead time to write the LOR and deadlines in say March–that doesn’t leave much time for them to get to know you. I’d be afraid they would either not feel comfortable writing a LOR or would write a relatively weak one. Can’t you call or email your instructors from Penn State?

Thank you very very much that’s what I was going to do but I have no idea how it works for the common app… Would I scan him the transfer Rec form, have him fill it out 7 times, and send it to each school? I have no clue if you could please help me that would be amazing! Last year I didnt use the common app at all

You don’t have to still be at Penn State. My S was at his first school for only one semester (due to Katrina) and was doing transfer apps when he was no longer there. He emailed profs for recommendations. No problem.

I think there are a couple of ways you could do this:

If the prof doesn’t mind having PSU pick up the mailing cost, he can download and print the form from the CA website and you could email him the address of the schools you’re applying to. He just needs to fill it out once and then xerox the form and his letter for the rest of the schools.

If he prefers you pay for the mailing, he could download, print and xerox the forms as in 1. You could send him a self-addressed large envelope that he could put the forms and LORs into and send back to you to mail out to the schools. If he prefers the form and LOR to be private, you could also send him regular long envelopes and he could seal and sign over the sealed flap before he sends them back to you. An alternative is for you to send him addressed envelopes for all of the schools and put enough postage on each to be sure to cover the cost.
