What to do during summer??

Hi, I am currently in my second year in attending UT Austin. I want to ask those who have wisely used their summers in their college/pre-med years. What did you guys do during your summers, especially in your second year? I do not plan to take summer school since I took it last year.

--I am currently looking for internships that I can apply for and am wondering if any of you can give me some help/info regarding this topic.

--Also, I've been thinking about volunteering out of country, in countries such as third-world countries.

--I am also planning to shadow doctors in a big hospital and how long is the right amount of time to shadow? (What I am asking is how many hours per day and for how many days)

--Anything else that I should consider??

Thanks everyone for your time and I hope many of you can help me out here.

Until you feel like it's been an important part of your life.

BDM, did u take part in clinical experience during the school yr, or just summer and stuff?

^ (10 chars)

well that makes sense..
BDM, it seems as if you have a lot of knowledge pertaining to these questions. Could you tell us how you spent your summers during your undergraduate years with a little more details? Thanks. That would help out a lot of us.

Summers were spent in a research lab doing cancer work. Second summer also included an international medical service trip and the MCAT; third summer included medical school apps.

did u shadow any doctors? would it be better in the summer b/c they may have more time?

intl medical service trips sound awesome! did it come up in your interviews a lot?

Yes .
