What to do: GPA and course question

When I first started college I was treating it like I was in high school. I was also just beginning to cope with the death of my father and I was working 40 hours-a-week. I decided to change things dramatically. I quit my horrible job to focus solely on my education. I joined my community college's honors enrichment program which gives priority admissions into many UCs; including UCLA and Berkeley. I became one of the few members of my community college's Associated Student Body that was active and stayed in. As soon as everyone got their extracurricular for being in the Associated Student Body, they left. I am a senator and the treasurer for the Associated Student Body. I am also a founding member of the Political Science Club at my college.

The problem is with my grade point average. I have a 2.9 GPA right now. This is the output of my effort so far. I have grown greatly after becoming friends with those in the associated student body as well as focusing on furthering my education for my father. I currently am holding all As in my classes. There is one that I have a high B in that will change after the next test. I am taking 7 classes that totals 22 units. I have been getting 100% on all my course work. If I keep this up I will have a 3.3 transferable GPA by the end of the semester while graduating with honors. I believe this growth warrants being admitted into a really good university.

The universities that I applied to are only seeing my 2.9. Will the colleges take into account the 7 classes? Applying with a 3.3 with honors into UCLA as a political science major would give me fairly good odds with admission. Do I appeal their decision if they don't admit me? Will they admit me on the grounds of being in honors? How will this work? How likely are my changes with appeals?

wow thats a tricky one
since there is a minimum req GPA to be looked at i don’t even know if they will review u beyond the 2.9
i hope i m wrong
anyone can give this pal solid advice on his situation?

I’m not entirely sure how this works but I’m not sure if you can even appeal it because I think when they start giving out acceptance notices around late april - the first week of march you have to give them a letter of intent within a couple week that you are attending the school. The only way for them to see your spring grades this semester is if you apply for winter 08 or spring of 08, I think that’s your only option. I think Fall is out of the question if you get rejected and I’m not too sure appealing will help.

Yeah, I don’t think they will see your spring grades in time for any appeals since they come out so late.

When did you start going to a CC? If you have any substandard grades (F, D, NP) you can get those removed with an Academic Renewal petition at your CC. This could help bump your gpa up if you have enough grades to remove (a lot of C’s would be your down fall).

Do you mean they want the SIR turned in by 11:59 p.m., Thursday, May 1, 2008? They only give transfer students a couple days to decide? That isn’t fair.

I never failed a class. In all my classes I got at least a C. I did withdrawal from one class.

No i mean when you are accepted you have to let your school of choice know you are going to attend. This is mandatory and this process definitely occurs before the end of Spring Semester

What I was saying is that UCLA gives out admission decisions at the end of April (from what I have been hearing it will probably be the very last couple days of April). They want a SIR filled out by May 1. This only gives a couple days to decide whether to attend their or not. When do any students get a chance to appeal. Maybe I am calculating the days wrong.

EDIT:
Weird. I just checked a different part of their site and it says by June you have to submit the SIR. The May date may have been for last year. Doesn’t this mean I still have time to appeal?

Maybe this question is too unique. It seems like something that the admissions officers will have to decide. Because I am an honors student, which gives priority admissions, they may check my application differently. I guess it all depends on what they want to do.
