Hi, I am wondering what I should do in case I get deferred from MIT. Would it be alright to send in a brief update of my achievements? I am reading the Hernandez book on college apps, and she says to wait until the first weeks of March to send supplemental things for deferrals.

Does anyone know what MIT's timetable for reviewing deferred applications is? When is the best time for me to send in supplementary things if I am deferred?

Pray. I would say that after submitting EA, you should continue trying as hard as possible in school and stuff, so that way you are ready if you get deferred.

We should all try not to be so hung up on one school since only a small percentage of us will actually get in. I say, if we get deffered, we should pour more energy into the finishing touches of our RD apps at other good schools where we might have better luck. That's my plan at least.

LOL, don't believe everything you hear from Hernandez. :-)

If you get deferred, a brief update would be very much appreciated - just don't wait until March or it won't be seen. By March we're well into selection committee, which means the folders are all on the table (not in the records room, where things could be added to them).

Definitely update MIT. Also, I would work on addressing areas of your application that might have kept you back in the EA pool (ie. grades can be addressed and improved, maybe taking more SATs ~ it can't hurt you).

asianight - when would you find out? (I have a tough time remembering all of the dates for all the different olympiads/programs/competitions/fairs/etc. :-)

What about minor stuff, as in being nominated for the 2006 U.S. Physics Team? I mean, the competition isn't until after the RD deadline, but being nominated is still something respectable.
