What to do if not attending CalSo?

Since I can't attend CalSo for unforeseen circumstances, I was wondering what I can do now to further prepare myself for Telebear Phase 1.

Any help would be awesome since I'm a bit lost about telebear and scheduling stuff :(!

Many thanks in advance!

You will have to complete the virtual orientation online. I won’t be attending as well and I received this email last Sunday from the CalSO staff.

Really sgt? I submitted my Can’t Attend last Monday but have not received anything yet :(… do you have the link to the virtual tour? Also what email did they send it to you (edu or your personal one)?

This is for the College of Engineering Orientation and the link they sent me: [Welcome to Virtual Orientation](http://ecalso.berkeley.edu/coe_t/)

I have submitted my “Can’t Attend” CalSO since almost 3 weeks ago though. You may just have to Google it or call the CalSO staff but for the College of Engineering, the virtual orientation must be done by July 1st.

Thank you so much sgt! I’ll email them tomorrow for the link then :)!

Thanks a bunch again ^_^!

and for anyone in L&S, their link is [L&S New Student Orientation](http://ls-orientation.berkeley.edu/ws/)

If I’m planning to apply for Haas, should I still look at that Orientation rider?

Thanks for the link :D!

If you don’t attend CalSO, when do you sign up for classes?

misterb7k - if you are admitted to L&S for now, yes you use that orientation site.

mickjagger - if not attending CalSO, you have notified them of that fact and will receive an appointment slot for registration and the code you will need to enter to proceed.

Could my appointment slot possibly be before some of the CalSO people’s?

zero point zero chance of that. Those that attend CalSO receive earlier registration, partly in compensation for having to come out over the summer. The last CalSO for fall freshmen admits is July 8-9.

Assuming you submitted the notification that you will not attend a CalSO, and did it by June 13th, the deadline, you should receive the additional instructions for registering on your own sometime from July 9 to the end of phase I.

However, put this into perspective. It doesn’t mean that life is over or that you can’t get into any classes, it just means that your choices are a bit more constrained than the CalSO attendees face. You will have to be a bit more flexible for this first term, you will perhaps get stuck in more ‘ugly hour’ sections, or have to take different courses that you would have wished, but you will be able to get into things and make normal progress towards your degree even with this time.

Most students get at least one semester where telebears times are terrible - the randomization yields a very late slot and that may be the semester when the most plan B, plan C kind of improvising has to happen, but they all survive it with no long term consequences. A bit of regret over what class they didn’t get into that semester, or some grumbling over having to take the course with the lackluster, boring professor instead of the high energy, engaging one. Some real oaths sworn under your breadth to the evil telebears gods when you are heading out to your 8AM first class and have an early evening section of something else. You might sweat the waitlist on a class for its first two weeks, investing the time to attend and keep up although you were not yet registered, before you clear into the official seat.
