What to do if you were deferred and still want to go to Penn

They are requesting that deferred students provide a formal email that will
become part of the application that contains the following:

1. make sure it is well written as is it is part of your application
2. WHY Penn is still the best school for you?
3. What has changed since you completed the application
4. New Awards

This is due by the regular app deadline.

It should be sent to Elizabeth Spegele ElizabethS@admissions.upenn.edu

At least, I'm assuming that's the email to send it to for everyone, regardless of region, since that's not my regional director.

Where'd you get this from? :S

I always thought this was what people suggested we do as opposed to something that Penn asks for specifically...

I'm not sure if it's from my college counselor or directly from Penn. Since I'm in Japan, it's hard for me to contact anyone, but my mom sent me an email with this, preceding it by "I've had a busy afternoon calling schools and [college counselor]"--so I'm not sure who it's from.
Perhaps Penn doesn't inform you of it, but if you really want to go, you would contact them, and they would tell you this...just a guess.

Also, for number 3, "what has changed since you completed the application," not quite sure what they want, though for me it's definitely "how has being in Japan influenced me" (since I don't have any grades for this term...)

Ah, I see.
Yeah, I was planning on doing this anyways, hehe. Was just curious as to whether or not Penn posted this on a website or something. =P

Thanks for telling us. :)

Er, IGNORE THAT EMAIL. Except, Glydan, you applied to Huntsman, didn't you? Apparently that person is the new Huntsman coordinator. Yeah...

Haha, ignore the ElizabethS e-mail?

And she is? I was under the impression that Inge was still the director for Huntsman...

My mom used the word coordinator (I'm assuming between the program and admissions). Inge is still the director. But apparently Sarvelia is no longer the assistant director?! So there's a new one. Which sucks, because I talked a lot with Sarvelia.

Also, apparently 6 people applied for huntsman from my school, and 1 might have gotten in, though not sure about that...

Penn admissions does not accept additional material from a deferred ED applicant for fairness. We only accept additional material from the school.

What exactly are you trying to do here?

I just confirmed that this is invalid for regular applicants. I have no connection with Huntsman applications, so I wouldn't know if it is invalid for Huntsman as well.

Really? The FAQ says we can send in a letter by late January, not the regular decision deadline. And I thought we were just writing a simple letter restating our interest, as opposed to another essay with the creative twists, etc. I'm pretty sure I stated my main reasons for wanting to go to Penn in the first "Why Penn" essay.

Hope we're not expected to update much. My main extracurricular activity since November has been doing college apps. :/

what do you guys think about taking the january SAT (i was deferred with a 2180)? I already took the SAT 3 times but I have improved by 70 points each time.

Ok, I keep on getting new info. (lauke, I was only trying to help, no ulterior motives). I think it would be best if this thread were just deleted lol...how do I do that? The "report problem post" thing says only use that for things like...fighting/rude posts/spam.
