@BHADES - I emailed the guy who interviewed me asking if they take them, and he said yes so I’m scheduling it now haha. I got a 1980 on my SSAT so I’m willing to do anything to raise that.

@ccnaf aim for a 2170, depending on your test that should put you in the 80-89 range.

@ccnaf14- I got a 1965, dont worry. My goal is to get at least a 2190 but I really wanna high math score as I said on my apps Math is my strength, which it is. I think I just didn’t test so well because I got 5 hours of sleep since one of my friends was so nervous and woke me up at 5 sending me a text, couldn’t fall back asleep.

The practice tests to me are nothing like the real test. How can I study or do better? There is a tutoring center up the street from me but every time I’ve called in the past two months it goes straight to voicemail. I just test really, really bad. I really want to do good but I just am an awful test taker. I’m also in 8th grade (should be in 9th, held back in Kindergarten)

ccnaf14- Im in 9th grade and the practice tests don’t help at all either. I tried tutoring last year but it didn’t really help at all. It’s really cool because I never got held back but I used to have trouble in school when I was in elementary school.

bhades- then what would you suggest doing? winging it? I got held back because I couldn’t read as well lol, but I now can basically read anything so it’s actually good that I was held back ahah

I think we should start a Cc book club. Reading more books should help us when we start prep school next year right?

I think thats a great idea, something to keep our minds off march 10! I’ve read it before, but Pride and Prejudice is a great book.

I’m thinking we should do a series so that way we could read on after March 10 or if we finish the book before that. Maybe The Hobbit?

We could read Fahrenheit 451. That’s a book we can read in two months. Or maybe 1984. That’s a real good book.

Or we could read The Giver series. I’ve heard there’s a sequel, but I haven’t found it.

I didn’t really like the Giver. I did like the messenger though, I think that’s the sequel.

Oh and I thought that Princeton review helped a lot for SSAT.

Quizlet has an awesome word list for 499 words on verbal. It helps a lot.

I liked the Messenger. I reread Harry Potter, though. One of the things that kind of nudged me into the general area in the first place.

Son is the fourth book in the Giver quartet. I loved it.

I’ve heard mixed reviews from my friends about the Giver series. What does everyone here think about it?

Loved it. Amazing. Made me cry so much.

I read it in 5th grade and honestly understood nothing, but I re-read it this year and got everything. It’s a book that makes you really question and think, it’s certainly profound. I really liked the book, but I haven’t read the others. Reading wise, it’s easy and pretty short, the narrative is straightforward (no unusual or large words). In terms of understanding, the book is a challenge. There are a lot of hidden symbols and metaphors.

mrnephew, I studied from that same list. I was actually back on there a few days ago, trying to see how many words I remembered.

I’ve only read The Giver so far. But I really liked how the author gave your mind room to roam. I was able to imagine many different scenarios, especially for the ending. It made me feel as if I could help to write certain parts of the book, even though I am only the reader.

The Giver was a very complex book. As a fifth grader, I was confused, but now I understand it better, although I didn’t like it very much still.

I thought the messenger was a lot better.
