@ccnaf14, Actually, reading out loud is a part of learning a language, any language. It is the verbalization of the written word, that connects it with visualization and brain processing of the language making it the complete process.

^^^^ and, you continue to do it in English class, including at the “top” boarding schools.

@ccnaf14 Your situation sounds similar to mine. My school is ranked top 10 in the nation of Math and Science, but I’m more interested in humanities. That’s one reason i’m applying to private schools.

@swimmergirl3 Yeah, my school is one of the top in our area, but they don’t have many courses in high school that I’m interested in: creative writing, philosophy, and psychology etc.

And I know there’s always going to be out-loud reading, I just tend to go really fast and loose my place.

Wow! I didn’t know this was so common. My school is supposed to have a math and science focus, yet we are strong in English and the Humanities. It’s like they are advertising something they’re not.

One thing every applicant (waiting for M10) can do is write a note (NOT an email) to the person who helped them the most. It could be to a parent or a mentor at school. After all the applications were submitted, my son sent me a simple note that said, I couldn’t have done this without you. Thanks for everything.

It’s a note I’ve kept tucked away and something I truly treasure.

awwwwww i need to give a note to my dad for all that driving he did to ALL 10 school hehehe
@photographermom

I almost have the opposite problem. My school’s music program is one of the best in Ohio. But when I listened to some of the concerts from the schools I’m applying to, I cringe at some of them. But I’m not going to go somewhere just for music. It’s just something I like.

@sincostan that’s really cool (: in lower school we had to play an instrument . In fourth I did violin, fifth I did baritone and sixth I did trumpet. I hated all of them. But I picked up the guitar this summer and love it. I also do chorus but honestly it’s only because my friends are doing it. What schools are you applying to again?

@sincostan You must be near Oberlin and their conservatory!

@sincostan I dragged my dad into Barnes and Noble today after picking up some lacrosse stuff and I bought 1984, I’ll let you know how I like it :)

@ccnaf14 I don’t know how you won’t enjoy it! And I’m applying to Exeter, Andover, Deerfield, Lawrenceville, Middlesex, Milton, and SPS.

@stargirl, No, I’m actually not near the Oberlin Conservatory.

Speaking of “The Fault Of Our Stars”, has anyone seen the trailer for the movie version for this summer?

Yes I have!

@sorifootball13 I literally started crying, I can’t wait to see it!
@sincostan I thought MX’s music department was actually pretty decent, but I asked instead of doing the music stuff to see some Sport’s places (the fields and stuff) so I did that instead. Their theater was nice though!

@ccnaf14 I have heard MX’s theater was impressive. I also fell in LOVE with St. Mark’s theater and the black box theater so I hope I get in because I’d love to act there! Same thing with Concord and St. Paul’s

@sorifootball13 yeah, it was really cool. All of the arts are in this barn-like building that really contrasts the traditional brick buildings

I still don’t know why I didn’t apply to MX…it’s a really good school even though it’s super hard to get into.

@sincostan is it bad that I’m four pages in and have had to reread it all?

@ccnaf14 :)) Maybe. But it’s still a good book.
