What to do on my first college visit?

So, next Thursday and Friday I am going on a college trip to the DC area, and I will be visiting George Washington University and Johns Hopkins University. Any tips on how I can prepare for them/ suggestions of what to do?

Nothing much you have to do. Hopefully you already researched the school to be sure it is a good academic fit for you. Hopefully you also signed up for a tour/information session at each school and have a hotel arranged. I also usually print out or at least look at the campus map so I know where to go to start the tour. After each tour it is a good idea to write down some notes – things you liked or didn’t like about each school to help job your memory when it comes time to apply.

We found that it helped to have your hotel as close to the college as possible. What worked for us was to do your preferred school in the morning in a city, the second choice school in the afternoon and use the afternoon and early afternoon for the driving. You can probably fit in a quick visit to GW after the GU tour.

Also, traffic in DC and Baltimore is really bad so give yourself plenty of time.

I recently started the touring process, and if you’re passionate about a student group you currently do, reach out to an organizer or member of such a group. For example, I’m really into the a cappella scene, so before I toured Northeastern, I reached out to their premier group, The Nor’easters, met them, and sang with them. It gives you an inside look on the student population that you wouldn’t have on just a normal info session and campus tour.
