Hi, I’m new to CC but I’m panicking because my summer plans have been cancelled. I originally was planning on working at my local university lab to do research, but due to corona, my internship has been cancelled… I’m not sure what to do… Does anyone have any advice? Will colleges understand if my summer plans this year aren’t very impressive? I’m worried because I’m a junior and and I’m not sure what colleges expect us to do.
I think colleges will be very impressed if you do any work at all through this pandemic. Work at the grocery store, cut grass.
DD is taking an online class as a concurrent enrollee at our local college (wasn’t supposed to be online when she registered) and an online SAT review class.
Her main close-to-her-heart volunteer position is on hold until the fall, and she is waiting to hear from a second shorter-term position (which she has done the past two years), that wouldn’t start until mid-July and already involves a large degree of social distancing.
If the pool opens, she could be a lifeguard (already has certification). That wasn’t in her original plans, but we all have to work with what we’re given right now. The pool could be made reasonably safe to some degree, but whether is is profitable enough to open without the big money-makers that are the summer camps and swim lessons remains to be seen.
Other than the two online classes, we aren’t counting on any of this coming to fruition.
