What to do when you don't know a word on the SSAT verbal?

Do you recommend simply skipping it, or trying to guess it? Also, do you recommend learning roots or the words themselves? Thanks.

On the SSAT, if you skip it, nothing happens. If you guess it wrong, you lose a quarter-point. So I’d say, guess only if you’re quite sure, meaning it’s an informed guess. Learning roots helps, but reading helps even more because you are acquiring vocabulary in context.
