I posted a thread over in the college majors forum, but I didn't get too many answers, so I am asking here.

I seriously don't know what I am going to do with my life. I have my college list down and I have already applied to U of Alabama, but other than that, my future seems bleak.

I want to go to medical school, but I don't think it's going to work out. I am just not smart enough. I can't even find out what to major in during undergrad because, like the title says, I have no interests. Well, real interests. The ONLY thing I actually do, is browse the internet on my computer all day. I don't like being around people the majority of the time. I don't really know why.

Also, like I said about medical school, I am not smart enough for math majors. Which sucks because at first, I was so interested in astronomy. I mean, I asked to go to a observatory for my birthday for crying out loud, lol! That is, until I found out that physics was involved in astronomy. At that point I gave up on anything that has to do with astronomy.

I really have nothing going for me in terms of my future. It's like my life is pretty much over before it starts. I already know good job options are limited because I hate math and can't do it well.

Is there really any hope for my future, truthfully?

I took a “color career test” because I was curious and surprise, surprise, Astronomy and Medicine were two of the choices (26 and 31 out of 40) haha!

Give it some time! You don’t even know where you’re going to college yet, there is no reason you should already know what you’re doing with the rest of your life!

I find it hard to believe that you have absolutely zero interests. You are not alone in being a teenager who browses the internet all day. Actually, a huge group of students in college, and probably people way out of college, are right there with you. But try to branch out a bit! You don’t have to be extremely smart and talented at something for it to be a hobby, especially when you’re just starting out. If you like astronomy, stick with it! Don’t worry about whether or not it’s a viable academic path or will lead to a career just yet. And try some new things. I don’t like being around people all day either, but you have to put yourself out there. If you are in your room all day, you will never find the things you enjoy or are good at!

And really, don’t worry about your future being totally hopeless just because you haven’t made a perfectly mapped out academic/career path yet. So many people come into college completely undecided, and a lot of people who think they are absolutely set on one thing end up changing their minds. You have time. You’ll find out what you do and don’t like, and what you are and aren’t good at. My friend who failed calculus in high school is a math TA now. Things can change. All you should worry about now is trying different things and seeing what makes you happy in this moment. You’ve got plenty of time to change your mind later.

Thanks ANWson! I really wish I was kidding, but I really don’t have any interests. Being around more than one person at a time, besides my family, is dreadful and anytime a new suggestion of a hobby to try comes about, I rarely ever like it.

I used to like painting my nails in crazy designs and colors. Every week I would have a different design. I stopped doing it about a year ago. Now my nails are always either unpainted or just black. THat’s the only “hobby” I can ever think of that I have had since I was 3. It’s not really something to be proud of though.

I think college is the best place to explore yourself and your interests. You’re really young, so you have soooo much time ahead of you to find out what your interests are.

I was seriously like you. Like, I’m not even kidding – the only thing I really enjoyed doing was browse the internet and binge-watch TV shows on Netflix. And social interaction? Forget it. Real useful to my future right? Then in college, I decided to open up my mind and join everything that sounded remotely interesting, took some electives that I thought I might have interest in. That’s how I found my major and how I found out I can do other things besides binge-watch TV shows.

Just go to college and keep an open mind. It won’t be helpful if all you think is “I have no interests, I have no interests, I hate everybody” because that WILL affect your environment. It might seem hopeless now, but you’re really young and it’s too early to figure out what exactly your path is for the rest of your life. Just enjoy your youth, don’t think too much, and try to keep a positive mind. A lot of people begin their college years feeling lost.

Thanks, lullabies!
I know, I have a terrible outlook on life. I guess that’s just how I grew up. Everybody in my family has something they do that they can be proud of, and already know what they plan to do with life. I don’t.

My dad hasn’t really encouraged me enough so I doubt he really cares what I do until he sees the end result. He has a mindset where he’s already made it and if he had to do it by himself then so do I :/.

Maybe, hopefully, it will get better sometime.
