I’m taking the Chemistry Subject test on June 4th and I was wondering what were the thoughts of current and former students in my position. Was it a lot easier than the AP exam? How did you prepare? After taking the AP exam in May, I’m confident in getting a 4 and have a good possibility of a 5. I plan on studying the topics that are covered in the subject test, but not in the AP exam such as nuclear chemistry.
Of course it was easier. For starters it’s a 1 hour exams vs. 3 hours. Second the Subject tests tests HS chem knowledge, while the AP test is akin to a college final. No comparison.
My D17 took the Chem SAT subject test on May 7th, a few days after taking the AP Chem test. She also said the SAT subject test was easier than the AP Chem test.
If you can make a high 2 on the AP exam , you can make an 800 on the subject test
I took the SAT Chem on May 7 and it was significantly easier than the AP exam. However, the format is quite different, especially the T/F/CE questions, so you’d want to practice those as you study. For the most part you should be fine, but be aware you don’t get an equation sheet on the SAT Chem (so you may want to memorize some constants and equations!).
