Should I take the Chem. subject test and AP test?

I'm currently taking AP Chemistry and I will take the AP exam in May

but I was wondering if I should, in addition to taking the AP exam, take the Chemistry Subject test.

the test date for the subject test is two days before the AP Chem exam

I was thinking it might be a good idea to take it then because I wouldn't really have to study much more if I took the subject test since they're the same subject.

Also another question - how different is the AP Chem exam from the Chem subject test? (and on a related note, what are some good review books for them?)

Definitely take Chem subject test (SAT2) and take in May 4 or June 1.

The SAT2 is an easier test, a high school level test, and multiple choice. You need to take a practice test because there is a weird section in it. Because it is an easier test, the curve is worse, meaning that as you miss questsions, your score starts going down pretty rapidly.

The AP test is a harder test, a college level test, and NOT multiple choice. Because it is a college level test, you can miss much more on it (can’t remember, maybe miss 30%, and still get a 5).

You can get practice books on both Chem SAT2 and Chem AP. There are a ton of threads on these. Use the search function above.

^^ Agreed. You should definitely take the subject test since you’re already in AP chem and plan to take the exam. You probably don’t need a separate book for SAT 2 Chem. if you already bought one for AP Chem.

Is the Princeton Review SAT II book accurate/good?

Definitely taking the SAT2. It is not only easier that the AP test, it is also more important for college application (unless you have >2 subject tests with good scores already).

You should defff take it. Just warning you though, the chem sat 2 was very difficult. Make sure you don’t only rely on retaining knowledge, yet knowing how to apply it to basically anything that they throw at you. Study A LOT.

^ In what ways was it difficult? I have heard that the conceptual questions are slightly hard, but that’s all.

Subject Test is way easier than the AP Test
