Question for those who’ve been through this before:
So, once the acceptance letters have gone out, to what extent do the schools try to woo the accepted students? I know they generally have revisit days. And I’ve heard some schools will send acceptance packets with some school tchotchkes. What sorts of things do schools do to encourage the accepted students to enroll?
Beyond school tchotchkes/swag and revisit days- your student will likely receive a note ( saying Congratulations ) from a current student or an alum (sometimes both). And ( so parents don’t feel totally left out ) some schools enlist current parents to call accepted parents to answer questions or just to say, Welcome!
Feel disappointed yet? Actually- it’s all exciting stuff. All the schools I know do a good job in the wooing department. I think for the most part everyone feels very special.
@PhotographerMom, you’re making me oddly emotional right now.
@stargirl3 - This WILL be your year
@PhotographerMom I sure hope so! Goodness, I hope more than I’ve ever hoped for anything. :x
And @momonymous, 1000 life points for the title of this thread.
Third time’s a charm, @stargirl3!
T-shirts are popular. Don’t want to mess with the surprise factor, but Masters had some good swag at revisit last year…stuff daughter still uses. And Masters boarders got a very cool (or should I say warm?) gift when they moved in.
Oh, and some schools send a fun “Welcome” video to accepted kids. They’re usually a lot of fun and very well done.
Masters swag sounds awesome!
Thanks @PhotographerMom and @SevenDad, We are not on the same page on DD’s first choice school, and I’m just hoping to get a little help in trying to convince her my first choice should be her first choice. Haha. Of course, it’s a moot point until acceptances come out.
@stargirl3, glad you like the thread title. ;
First choice, second choice or third choice: You’re going to get car decals, too ( whether you want them or not ! ) . The question is- Which one will you put on your car? Our BS decals are still in a drawer somewhere… the kids can stick their school decals on their car… College decals… OTOH- I have all three on my car- go figure.
Fingers crossed for you @momonymous !!
Just wait until the college decisions start rolling in…
Our cars have OUR colleges on them. ChoatieKid can deface his own car (when he gets one) with his own decals.
Still???
Our old Subaru, which was with us from before my birth 'til age 8, had my mom’s college sticker. When it got totaled, the sticker went with it.
I’m with @skieurope here, really?? So for 20 yrs you have been putting college stickers on your cars??
my car has no stickers, will not be adding boarding school stickers
Our cars are really, really old.
Wow @skieurope and @lifelongNYer – You are really criticizing others for what they choose to put on their cars? It is not that unusual to have pride in your school – there are hundreds of companies that count on the income from alumni buying sweatshirts/tailgate supplies/coffee mugs. If it were so terrible to display school pride, they would have long ago gone out of business.
This board has gotten crazy. Is this some kind of joke? Have I missed something?
This was a fun thread about what kids can expect to receive if they are fortunate enough to be admitted to a school. A sticker is fun. It is nothing to be judged so harshly. Geez.
@london203 I don’t think @skieurope was judging, I think he was just surprised. >:D<
Ok. If so, I stand corrected.
FWIW, my mom hasn’t been able to put her alma mater back on the car because that would require a trip to the Midwest. So, if someone still has a sticker after all this time, they either live near their school or have a really old car (or go to reunions, I suppose ;)).
