Folks…
My son is packing for his first OV for men’s collegiate rowing. I know they can’t “workout” with the team but other than the obvious items (assortment of clothing) is there anything else he should bring?
Depends. Is he staying on campus in a dorm? Are they putting him up at a hotel? If on campus, then a pillow and sleeping bag are a good idea.
Don’t forget the towel if not staying at a hotel and give him some money. Sometimes his host, if it is another student gets money from the coach to cover food, but you never know.
some money but also sneakers sometimes the team will play touch football or ultimate frisbee etc
Good point! I assume a dorm as we are in California and he’s going to Cornell. Maybe I should have him ask the coach. We’re newbies at this…
Thanks!
Yeah, tell him to take a bit of money. Although I believe that schools can provide some funds for basic entertainment (a pizza, etc) it won;t hurt to have some cash to hit up Starbucks and the like with his host. You should also get a schedule from the coaching staff that will tell you where he is staying before the visit starts.
OV to Cornell means lots and lots of walking. Coaches like to show off their beautiful, sprawling campus so pack some good walking shoes.
Thanks! Just got email from AD about the logistics of it all today. Looks like student athlete host gets a stipend to spend on their recruit. I think my some will really enjoy the visit…and walking that lovely campus sounds perfect to me
