Well, here’s the deal. My mother and father were never married - he left before I was born. So on college applications, under the section “Father”, do I even put anything down? I’ve heard that some colleges take the income of both parents to figure need based aid, but since he’s not connected to me in any way anymore (besides child support), I don’t see why he should be listed.
Thanks for the help

Do not put anything down. If his name is not on the birth certificate, you can mail the certificate to the school as proof that you need a single parent waiver.

Well I just asked my mom, and she told me that she has two birth certificates, one with his name and one without. She has used the one with his name, however, for child support, so she insists on just using that one. Do I still leave the fields blank?

If he has not been a part of your life, then I suggest you do not mention him. Since you will need a waiver in order to lessen cost of tuiton, the university will ask for proof. The easiest way of proving that he is not involved is showing the birth certificate sans your father. However, if he does pay child support, than you must put his name down and check that your parents are separated.

You can PM me if you have anymore questions.
