What to wear for an Admissions Reception

Hi everyone,

I'm going to a local admissions reception soon for a school that has a very strict dress code. Should I wear what I would wear to an interview? If not, what?

Thanks so much!

If the reception is in the evening, I’d suggest going just a little bit dressier than you might have to the on-campus interview. . . just a little. You don’t want to appear too trendy or fussy, but you don’t want to risk being under-dressed. You won’t be walking around a campus, and so warmth and comfort aren’t important considerations. I’d say wear a conservative dress, or skirt with blouse and blazer or dressy sweater, with flats or low-heeled pumps. Keep make-up simple, and hair neat.

Thanks so much! I have the perfect dress  I should wear tights, right?

Business casual is safe. No sneakers. No cocktail dresses. No overly-short skirts.

Remember that you are trying to impress adults, not your peers, so dress accordingly. No jeans, no matter what designer brand it is and how expensive.
