I have two kids going to two different schools. When I visit them, they occasionally wear clothes with logos of their own schools, but often will just throw on a sweatshirt with another school’s logo. Most of their friends do the same. It frankly doesn’t strike me as rude or not rude–it’s just that like most kids, they have a number of sweatshirts/tee shirts amassed from visiting other schools/friends at other schools and they throw on what’s available.

I think that Vandy’s instructions say a lot about Vandy. For some kids, the fact that a school is telling you what to wear on a campus tour will be a negative and will speak to the fact that they might not be comfortable in such an environment. For others, they either won’t care or will think that such instructions are a good idea.

Personally, the concept that a USC student would be put out if a fellow student wore UCLA gear on campus (or vice versa) is far more @@-worthy to me than Vandy advising prospective students not to wear competitive t-shirts. It’s a t-shirt that covers the body, not an Undying Declaration of Love and Supreme Loyalty.
