Hey CC community! I’m going on a tour of NYU tomorrow and it’s going to be my first tour! I’m kind of confused on what to wear- should I wear something like a nice top and jeans or a dress? Thanks
I’d just wear something that you would wear to school picture day. Polished but not necessarily super fancy.
I think anything comfortable and tasteful is fine; I think less “dressed up” than school picture day is fine.
I agree with CHD; comfortable clothes, but don’t look lazy.
@aeonian , @CHD2013 , @Madeline25 , so would something like a blazer over jeans work? Or a nice top over jeans?
You really don’t need to wear a blazer (I mean, unless you really want to). It’s all pretty casual, you don’t have to really dress up or anything. A nice top over jeans is fine. Just wear what you wear when you typically go out in public (so long as it’s not something inappropriate).
I think nice top over jeans would be great. Blazer might be a little bit on the dresser side than you need to be, but I think you could if you really wanted to.
We did a college tour where more than one gal in the group was wearing “daisy dukes” with “creative” holes/tears in them + tank top + flipflops.
Just remember that college tour is not Spring Break in Fort Lauderdale, and you’ll be fine.
One time I wore a v-neck (very shallow) and running shorts to my tour of Pomona. Other times I wore t-shirts and tops and medium length shorts/jeans, I live in Cali, weather in anywhere past October is a problem haha. Just wear what makes you feel comfortable, just think if you were going on a field trip to watch a symphony perform for your school. Just dress nicely, but not too casual or formal.
Whatever u choose to wear, just keep in mind that u only get ONE TIME to make a first impression.
If you aren’t interviewing, it probably doesn’t matter much. Don’t wear a t-shirt from another school, and wear comfortable shoes. Dress for the weather. Don’t wear jeans if it is going to be 85, and take a raincoat if it looks like rain.
intparent is right. For your typical college tour, the people you’re dealing with the most are current students at the school (they lead campus tours and Q&A sessions). There might be a group session to start the day, where they run through a couple spirit things with a few more important people at the school, but it’s really a very casual event. Like lots of others are mentioning, just wear something you would normally wear out in public. While you can’t really ever be overdressed, a blazer might be a little much unless you’re interviewing. Have fun!
