What to wear to Honors College Reception?

Stony Brook University’s Honors College Reception is at “Hilton Garden Inn Ballroom”.

Since this is at a hotel, should I dress as I would for an interview? As in skirt, collared shirt, etc.
Should I also get my parents to dress rather formally? As in, church formal?

And, stupid question, but attending a reception does not equal enrolling right?

Also, what do you do at a reception?

Thank you!

Good question, but there’s no need to overdo it for this event. It’s just a “get-to-know-you” type of program, nothing more. Meet the faculty, advisors, and students, and get your questions answered.

And no, there’s no commitment. Hope this helps!

Chris

So if you have not been invited to attend the reception, it is safe to say that you are not being considered for the Honors College? What about WISE and Scholars for Medicine?

Are parents invited, as well?

Yes, parents are invited to the reception.

LB - All honors final decisions will go out tomorrow. I know we’re adding a few more to the HC pool, as well as final Scholars decisions.

Chris

Okay, thank you!

Also, are additional scholarship amounts awarded for being in the honors college?

Not additional, no – all the scholarships should be included.

Chris

@sbuadmissions‌ what did you mean by “no need to overdo it”? Thank you!

I just mean this isn’t a suit-and-tie kind of event. It’s at the end of what will probably be a long day for most of the participants – the full ASD program starts at 10:00am – so it’s nice, but informal.

Chris

got it, thanks!

@sbuadmissions How did you decide between offering students who were accepted into SB, a place in the honor’s college vs university scholars? What were the major deciding factors?

There’s a lot that goes into the decision. Courses and grades, major, recommendations, essays, the applicant’s priority order, etc. The programs are so selective that it’s hard to narrow down.
