I have a lot of school honor roll awards adn one or two "perfect attendance" awards.
Also, I have some good, but not great running awards such as "8th on league for J.V." and 40th place at Invitiational.

Which awards should I list? Should I just put in every award, significant or not, in the app?
Should I list all of the school's honor roll awards? (Because I don't have anything else)

thanks!

Avoid all that honor roll and perfect attendence stuff…it absolutely means nothing. As for the regional awards, I dont know where you are applying but that stuff normally doesnt mean much either. When you get to state awards, then your achievements start to have more value in the eyes of an Adcom.

So it’s better to list NO awards, then to list meaningless awards?

Actually, do mention the school awards if you have nothing of more significant value. On the common application, they ask you to state whether an award is an achievement on a school, national, etc level. Of course substitute the least important for more impressive awards if you can but don’t omit any just because they are not as impressive if they’re the only ones you have. However, I wouldn’t mention perfect attendance…that’s just completely worthless to colleges. If you don’t attend, you’re screwed and it’s on your shoulders. If you do attend, it’s a mundane achievement to boast about.

ok, thanks. What about the running awards? These are not on a school level they’re higher.
Some examples are:
J.V. eigth in league (which is 5 schools)
50th in invitational (which hundreds of schools come to, there was about 500 kids in this race I believe)

Should I list those??

Most applications allow you to list “honors” under certain extracurricular activities so that’s where I would mention those. I would only include academic awards in the actual awards section if you can place the other awards received from extracurricular activities in the extracurricular section. However, if you can’t place those running awards in the extracurricular section, I would state them in the general awards part of the application. It would help to know which application you’re filling out.

UC application they only have five slots i think

anyone on this forum who hasn’t recieven great awards and only have these type of awards??

Most students applying to college probably haven’t received any awards other than perhaps being on their school’s honor roll. Most colleges use awards mainly for merit aid consideration, not as admissions factors. You have nothing to lose by listing any awards that you’ve won.

^ oo thanks. sucks cause I really need some aid but I probably won’t get much from the schools I want to go to.
