What type of school is SDSU?

I've just started looking at schools in California, and so far San Diego State has jumped out to me the most. I'm looking for a school with a good political science program and an active nightlife, and one which is preferably near the coast. Would SDSU fit this criteria? if not, what else would?
Also, would the fact that I would be an out-of-state resident help or harm my chances of getting in?

bump, anyone?

I’m sure you already know about the great schools in California (Stanford, Berkeley, UCLA, USC, Pomona, and omitting Caltech because you said it was for polysci) so all I will say is that they are mostly by the coast, and all have active nightlife so consider all of them.

Also look into UCSD because it’s literally minutes away from the beach and they have a great political science department on par with Cal and UCLA easily.

As for SDSU, it’s very socially active and lively, however it isn’t one of the best universities in the state. UCSD is superior to it in pretty much every way academically and is in the same town.

Also, applying to UCs (UCLA, UCSD, Cal) as OOS will give you an admission boost if you can afford to go.
