I have a 88% in Chemistry, and I calculated the math I would have to get 101% on the final to get a 90%, an A in the class. I’m so upset because with a B in this class and the other 5 classes, 3 of which are Ap Classes I calculated I would have a 3.83 gpa wieghted, one point away from a 4.0 my first semester junior year. I haven’t asked her if she rounds grades, but I highly doubt she will. With this gpa I calculated my sophomore and potential second semester junior year grades and I got a 3.95 gpa over the two years with a B in Chemistry. I feel horrible, to think I’m .5 away from the gpa that is considered “ok” for mid class UCs, like Davis, which I feel I want to get into, but there was a time I wanted to get into higher Ucs.But I know my capabilities, so I dont wish to attend high top Ucs like Berkely, neither 3rd class UCs like Merced, though its good I don’t think it would help me achieve my major because I want to enter Law, I know I need to go to a reputable University for Law to be successful career and a 4.0 I thought wouldn’t be enough but now a 3.95?? Is a 3.95 not going to work? Are there any Universities that are reputable but will accept this gpa? Is there perhaps anything I can do to ask my teacher to raise my grade because I’m so close? It’s sad to think one point can make a difference in my life, this one Chemistry exam.
Is this 3.95 your UC gpa or weighted?
Its wieghted
I think that most of the UCs will be a reach. What is your sat/act score and how are your ECs? These two will have to dominate your application along with meaningful essays to have a chance at the upper tiers.
To put this in perspective the avg GPA for schools like uc Davis and those above that school are a 4.0 Uc GPA or more which is capped at 8 semesters of honors/Ap classes.
I’m confused what is the difference between a Uc Gpa or wieghted. My counselor said most Ucs accept the weighted gpa. What I did was I took my sophomore and junior grades over the 4 semesters, and I calculated based on A being a 4 B being a 3, C being a 2 and an Ap Class with an A being a 5 and got a 3.95 gpa weighted. This is what my counselor told me. Is this not how you calculate your gpa?
UCs calculate GPA different. Only UCLA and Uc Berkeley use the full weighted GPA which averages around 4.3 for them. Use this website to calculate it: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
A 3.95 will make UCD/UCI/UCSB slight reaches, and UCB/UCLA/UCSD very unlikely. You’ll likely get into UCSC, UCR, and UCM.
What were your SAT/ACT scores? Do you have any ECs?
I wanted to address another issue.
Did you research the law profession? You do know that the profession for new attorneys is not good, right? There are thousands of unemployed attorneys who have huge law school debt.
