I am planning on double majoring. One in science (physics, biophysics, biochemistry).. something like that. And the other in music. While I am in college I would like to Study Abroad often. I would also like to become proficient in another language. But, given that I already will have a very full schedule, I would rather do that by studying abroad, or do it after college. Basically, the language proficiency would be nice but it is not a priority, unless I can fit it in without adding significantly to my schedule.

Which college's GE options are best? how should I rank them

ERC said something about promoting its students to study abroad? Does this mean I couldn’t in the other colleges? Is there any benefit to going ERC if I plan to study abroad?

Im an econ joint math major at Revelle College. i wanted to take many foreign language 3 foriegn language classes (japanese, korean, and french) but the goddam GEs for revelle is restricting me to do so. it might work out for your situation since u want to be a science major. (the GE classes for science usually stacks up with ur major requirement) but in my situation, revelle sucks hardcore. im actually looking forward to take the humanities classes, but the unneccesary GEs are just too much for me.

Revelle students are a lot more laidback in my opinion, and the way housing is structured makes it very easy to socialize and meet new friends… but diversifying ur academic experience would be very difficult in revelle.

based solely on majors ur need, revelle still would be a good choice since u say proficiency is not really ur priority.

Muir lets you pick two sequences out of music, foreign language, and humanities. You are also required to take either a math or science sequence, which will overlap with your lower division requirements.

How do classes that are both GE and would count towards my major work?
Do the GE count towards my major? or only as GE? for example, if I took some music courses as part of my GE, would it count towards my major, would it count towards my GE, or would I even be allowed to take them? The same with math/science courses I presume?

It depends. You are only allowed to overlap a certain number of courses. Overlapping is having it count for both GE and major. Not sure if it’s different for the colleges, but I know in Muir you are limited to 3 overlapping courses for a single major or 6 if you are a double major. So in your example, you would be able to count that music class for both GE and major; same with the math/science class.
