what uni/college (in USA) do you suggest has a really good physical ed degree?

I have already recieved my BS in Petroleum Studies from the American University of Beirut and Now I a decided to change directions.

Ever since I started coaching I realized that I dont like my degree and job and would really like to become a PE teacher/ coach.

I want to pursue a program that is maximum 2 years and I am hoping I can find a BS/BA program that will end up being 2 years once my courses are transfered.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. I do not mind getting a certificate or Masters if possible and applicable.

My main question is what university or college (in USA) do you suggest for me that has a really good physical education degree program?

What is your visa status? If you are a US applicant, the state where you study will be critical as each state has different teacher’s licensing regulations. If you are an international applicant, you don’t have to worry about that, but you still need to talk with your potential employers to find out if they care where you get your degree. There may be a preference for graduates of a particular college/university, or people who have completed the requirements for licensing in one part of the US or another.

You also need to think about how much you can afford to pay. For a second bachelor’s degree, there won’t be any financial aid. As an international student, the number of hours you can work, and where you can work will be limited by the restrictions on your student visa. US applicants who can file the FAFSA, are eligible to borrow un-subsidized Stafford Loans.

If you are an international applicant and haven’t already done so, read through the material at [EducationUSA | Study Abroad, Student Visa, University Fairs, College Applications and Study in the U.S. / America](http://educationusa.state.gov/) and then pay a visit to the advising center closest to you. There is one in Beirut: [EducationUSA - Center Profile - AMIDEAST](http://www.educationusa.info/Beirut) The counselors there can help you work your way through the whole process.

Hello and thanks. I am a US citizen currently living abroad so no need for Visa.

It is not necassary I be fully licensed in certain states because I plan to work abroad, my main goal is to find a excellent program that will be around 2 years long. (with or without my current BS degree)

Is it true I cannot recieve Financial aid from any university because I already have a BS? did not know that…I am relying on FAFSA for financial support for sure…thanks for the help

It is my understanding that you are limited to unsubsidized stafford loans. You should be able to find out details at the FAFSA website. You also could ask about this in the Financial Aid Forum. Be sure to make it clear in your post that you are a US citizen looking for information about paying for a second BA.

Do you have resident status in any state? If not, are you willing to move to a particular state, work there for a year, pay taxes, etc. and establish residence? That is likely to get you the lowest cost for your studies. You may consider looking for an employer who would hire you for your current degree. If the work hours aren’t hideous, you might be able to squeeze in a class or two in the evenings or on weekends while you are waiting out your resident period. Also, some universities will give you in-state status if you move into that state for a job. Each state makes its own rules (and sometimes each university does too), so you have to check carefully.

There isn’t any “ranking” system that I know of for Phys. Ed. departments. I’d suggest that you have your family and friends in the US ask the teachers they know for ideas. Some departments focus more on training coaches, and some focus more on preparing K-12 teachers, and still others are strongest in sports medicine or kinesiology. Also, since each state has different rules about teacher certification, that will affect what is offered. You will have to read through all of the catalogues carefully.

I’d suggest you start out by running some searches for Phys. Ed. programs at colleges and universities in your price range. Here are some good search engines to try. Each of them includes slightly different factors, so it is worth it to run all of them and then compare the results:
[College Search - College Confidential](http://www.collegeconfidential.com/college_search)
[College Navigator - National Center for Education Statistics](College Navigator - National Center for Education Statistics)
[College MatchMaker - Type of School](<a href=“College Search - BigFuture | College Board”>College Search - BigFuture | College Board)

Good luck!
