hey everybody i decided today instead of just reading people's posts on summer programs and SAT's, id get off my lazy ass and register haha

i do have some questions for yall to ponder
its in reference to the possiblity of ' bad extra curricular activities'
do you think some colleges would actually look down upon some of the things you do, or rather it would be in my best interests' not to mention some things'

for example: many kids make themselves stand out to colleges because they've been playing the oboe and piano on their heads for eight years

thats all well and good to be unique in that manner, but how about if you do a unique activity with hmm how can i say possible ' less prestige'

i'm a song writer/singer/rapper ( i dont need you to be condescending, if you follow hip hop i sound like a mos def, the roots, or talib kweli not what you hear on the radio)
REGARDLESS, i also started my own record label and work with some engineering and producing on that end and have began working on my album

i have also been boxing for quite some time

my guess is that many kids looking to apply to ivy league schools dont participate in these types of activities , im justr wondering if you think there is any positive aspect that schools will see in this through my dedication to them

I think those are great ECs! Very unique...but it shows that you're not just doing whatever you need to do to look good for college, but that you're persuing what you like to do and you're taking action. Anyway, just my opinion.

haha well thanks for your opinion, im not quite sure how i would work them into an appropriate essay or resume or what not now but thanks for getting at the thread

What colleges are you tryna get into? What major?

right now im looking into business schools, im interested in economics and business so Whartons most likely as a reach, some middle tier ivy's haha if theres such a thing, suny binghamton always as a safe school cuz im from new york and stanford schools of this kind of caliber

Oh ok, I was going to recommend Howard University because they have a great business school...but you're looking for Ivies...just continue to develop your extracurriculars...you've taken the SAT/ACT?

maybe im mistaken but isnt howard university an all black school? if so i may have a problem getting in hahaha
and yes i took the sat's ...yesterday haha

Hey Witzness, welcome to CC. They could look at your ECs and see how unique you are. Always play up your skills, no matter what they are. Even a delinquent could appear unique by saying that he learned the true value of honesty when he was affected by [some event] and that caused him to stop stealing. It would catch someone's eye in the admissions group..and show that this kid could really be some addition to the campus. So I think your ECs are great, definetly unique, keep it up man. :)

thanks for your comments
