33 act, 3.90 uw gpa

I am waiting results from the October ACT, but as I sit now I have a UW 4.0 and a 28 ACT. I am confident that the next test will be at least a 29. I am an OOS, white male. I applied Early Action. I have been president of the student body, 4 time 1st team all-conference athlete, as well as many theatre things. Also am applying to the COE with 31 (expected 32/33) math subscore. Michigan is my dream. From my understanding of this thread, will this make up for the lower end ACT score?

coco, a lot of it will depend on how well U-M knows your high school and how they evaluate your UW 4.0 GPA. If I could have only one, I would much rather have the high GPA than the high ACT score because they do not overlook low grade for students with high test scores. You have a realistic chance of getting in but I’m afraid you’ll just have to wait like everyone else.

Okay thank you, but one more thing. I have heard that the engineering dept. cares little about the overall score and more about the math subscore (I believe the only school in the university that does that). If it is simply the reading comp section holding me back, will they look at it differently?

So I’m assuming if you are out-of-state and have a 3.7 UW GPA (out of 4) and ACT score of 27, then your chances are low?

Chance me:
EA, In-state, 30 ACT, 3.7 GPA, Good references and Good Essays, Legacy (Dad is an Alum).

Thanks

You would have a chance. Would depend on:

1) How rigorous are your courses and your grades in AP courses?
2) How well thought of your school is by Michigan?
3) Have you been involved in activities WITH LEADERSHIP?

Thanks,

1) AP courses were very rigorous, APCalc, APPhysics, APChemistry etc.
2) My school is one of the big ones in the metro Detroit area. Had many conversations with assigned UM admissions counselor over past year.
3) Yes I am the oldest of 4 boys and have been involved in many school leader roles.

Teachers and school counselor have attest to strong recommendations.

Thanks again!

senna is match. sixerfan would be a reach.

My understanding, from a U of M information night, is that they don’t count minuses or pluses. They refigure gpa so that A-, A, A+ = 4, B-, B, B+ = 3, etc. So if a student has all As and A-s it’s a U of M gpa of 4.0. Does that sound correct to everyone else?

I am pretty sure that is how it works. (If I am not mistaken…)

Chance me with:
4.0 out of 5 weighted
2240 non super score. (2340 super scored)
Many high commitment ECs… Top 3 =
World’s first high school bollywood (south asian) a cappella group
MIT RFID Lab internship last summer
Second place in TiE young entrepreneurs business plan competition
