Ugh, none of this is good news for me. I don’t qualify for blue/gold, we’re over 100K household, but we’ve got a mortgage and kids. I hope they take this into consideration. My savings is what’s allowing me to go full-time, but it’s running out quickly and I was hoping the UC system could help me out without me having to take out loans to cover my entire tuition. If that ends up being the case, it’s CSULB for me. They pretty much laughed me out of the FA office at CC. :(

The UCs are typically a bit more generous than CSU, so you never know. Also you can apply for scholarships as well. Unfortunately most ucla scholarships don’t give out decisions until well into the summer. I applied for one that won’t let me know until August 30. CSUs will have already started classes by then. Also lower tiered UCs tend to offer more than top tier. UCI offered me $2500 more than UCLA.

I thankfully qualified for bue and gold but not pell grant or cal grant. Tuition is covered. As far as housing goes i guess im paying that out of pocket, in total though i took out $6,700 this year and next year ill be taking out $3,400 thanks toa promotion ill be gettimg at work.

They calculate more than just income. They also look at you savings, etc. If you don’t have much in terms of the latter you will probably get aid. They look at the whole enchilada…

My out of pocket is $9200 minus $2000 in work study so $7200 if I can use the work study.

I only have to pay 5K out of pocket so I might take the UC loan for that. I will most likely pay full tuition next year though as my parents income is about 3x higher this year than last. and :(

$0 for me.

Got a full ride through Chancellors scholarship at UCSD, including study abroad :).

^ jealous.

Congrats man.

@fullload My husband makes over $100,000 a year (I am just going to school full-time) and I was given a grant that covered tuition, books, and more at every single UC I applied to (UCLA, UCI, UCR, UCSD). UCSD (the school I am attending) offered me the most with around a $21,000 grant. UCR offered me the least with around a $15,000 grant. But I am going in on Monday to submit my sitter’s pay stubs and my lease agreement to have my budget revised. I expect to receive more grant money, because UCSD will give extra grant money (if it is available) for childcare and extra housing costs for students with children.

So I won’t have to pay anything “out of pocket” because my husband makes more than enough for our living expenses and my grant will more than cover my school expenses.

I did get into SDSU and received absolutely no aid. I was a finalist for some scholarships but didn’t receive any of them. So going to UCSD was the best option for me. I am sure you will receive enough grant money to at least cover your tuition. Having children and a mortgage definitely “helps” your FA situation.

That’s great news, knhofto. I’ll be looking into grants when the time comes. :)

@fullload - IMO, even if you don’t get enough grant/ free money to pay your entire tuition, I think you could get enough to at least be comparable to a CSU. Hopefully you can get more than that, but I think you’ll get something worthwhile.

@ocnative thanks! it was a surprise until i went to a ucsd financial aid workshop and informed me i received it, still didn’t believe it until i actually went to the ceremony x).

Lindyk8,
“I’m paying the whole damn thing” TOO!
I feel for us
