I had the conformity one
I used Civil Disobedience by Thoreau, then i talked about Utpian societies..(they didnt work), then enlightenment thinkers and johne locke and such
i feel like I did really well

I had the conformity one. Used civil rights leaders (Rosa Parks & MLK Jr.) and *One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest/i. I wish I had more time to write; my pencil kept breaking so I wasted time sharpening. :(

I had individual vs group one

my examples were pro group:

international corporations, suffragists, Burmese monks

I was fame=happiness.

Examples:
Made up loonng story about George Washington,
Albert Einstein's early life with his theory of relativity,
personal example of me being a great chess player.

I had fame = unhappiness

Ex.'s
1. An Ambassador in the book Shalimar the Clown
2. A famous scholar in The Judges (bsed this one)
3. Horace Greeley in the 1874 presidential election

fame=happiness

i used President FDR and Al Gore. filled up two pages exactly. hope that helps me.

fame = happiness

Elliot Spitzer & Kurt Cobain and the 27 Club

Fame is not the only constituent of happiness.
I wrote my essay on how happiness consists of the achievement of one's goal and the peace within one's soul.
Examples (characters who have great fame but are not happy):
Jay Gatsby
Pip
and Hilary Clinton...(lol...I ran out of example, so I just threw her in)

young hollywood- birtany spears paris hilton lindsay lohan---older hollywood death elvis marilyn onroe anna nicole smith and heath ledger

I am so jealous of all of you who got non-conformity, that is a sweet topic. The fame one just sucked.

I was suprisedthat they had one about nonconformity on the test- I'm sure it's on a practice test I've used. Only bad part about my essay was that everyone seemed to have used the civil rights movement.

i had the society better with individual thought one:

1984
To Kill a Mockingbird
Innovation, modern inventions (the internet for one...solidified global market)

i had the fame one too.
is it that useful to use historical examples?
i used the young hollywood too since it was current and related the topic to fame in this day and age

@DCSPORTS-

I did Heath Ledger too.

I also used Britanny Spears and Howard Hughes and used losing touch with reality as my theme for the bringer of unhappiness.

I felt good about it when I was writing but then everyone has said how they used hollywood people as well so I felt sort of lame.

My prompt was: are the actions of individuals more valuable than the actions of groups or teams?

The two examples I used were Rosa Parks and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I wrote a little more than a page and a half, i hope i did alright on it. Used some vocab words and had a really good connection to them both.

i used gatsby from the great gatsby, daisy from the great gatsby, and some movie i saw in my friends italian class.

I had the fame-happiness one. I fabricated an uncle who was a struggling musician who eventually got hired by a major record company. He started receiving face recognition in the streets and his fame was growing, but eventually the stress got to him and he turned to alcohol abuse. Eventually he realized that although fame had been his goal, he was only truly happy staying at home with his family.

I guess it's better than making up a book like some people did.

fame and happiness one
i wrote about McCarthy and red scare thing
i hope it's the right name......i couldn't remeber if he was senator or not and his first name
oh well
and i wrote about two shakespeare

Mine was Fame and Happiness one

Thesis: Fame does not lead to happiness

EX #1: Henry David Thoreau: Walden --> Not famous, not a lot of friends but happy. He felt accomplished and felt satisfied. Gained fame after death so works

EX #2: Ex-Governor Spitzer: Gained a lot of fame for his sex scandal with hooker named Kristin: Bad fame (infamous)... He isn't happy as he lost his job, the trust of his family, his reputation, and possibly even his entire family in the near future...

fame doesn't make you happy

Steve Bartman - blew Cubs chance to go to world series, hated by all cubs fans
Bill Buckner- hated by redsoxs fans
Iwo Jima Flag Bearers - felt guilty they got to leave the battle field and were made famous while their comrades were dieing at war. turned into alcoholics
