What will a Letter of Rec from a professor within the college do?

Hey guys, this is my first post. I’m the oldest child in my family (Junior in HS) and am still a little overwhelmed in this whole college fiasco. I’m looking to be a Finance major. I have interned at a major financial firm in NYC this summer and am going to get a letter of recommendation from my boss. He is a professor at the graduate business school at one of the top 3 business schools in Manhattan and he said that he would do whatever I asked him in terms of college “stuff” (lol it was very vague but tbh he’s a very nice guy and would do whatever I would ask for getting me in.) I’m a 3.5 Honor Roll student at a top public school in NJ. Will a letter from a professor within the school get me in if my grades are below but not necessarily astronomically lower than what the school normally accepts?

It will def be impressive, but you shouldn’t count on it to be the one determining factor that will get you accepted.

I agree. I think that having a professor write a letter of recommendation is unique because you were able to have this type of experience (interning for him). However, I don’t think that the professor’s letter of recommendation automatically means that you’ll be accepted. I’m not sure what schools you’re interested in, but letters of recommendation are typically lower on the list of importance than class rigor and GPA.

I’m referring to NYU

Is he a professor or and adjunct professor? I believe this will make a difference.

Professor, He teaches classes that are later in the day
