That is actually a very interesting question. I have 65 AP credits and have retaken all the core sciences so I am down to 41 credits now; however, the transcript still stays that I have attempted 65 hours and then goes on to say I have only passed 41 hours. Of course, GPA is not affected, but it is somewhat annoying to see the 65 hours attempt, 41 pass next to each other. I definitely hope it doesn’t appear like that on the final transcript; might as well get rid of the AP’s that were retaken IMO. I’ve been meaning to ask my advisor so I’ll update you once I get an answer.

Each college likely has its own policies on how duplication of AP credit is handled, and how it is noted on the transcript (i.e. whether the AP credit disappears, or is listed as 0 credits, or whatever).

Can you pull up an unofficial transcript to check?

I took AP Calc, AP Bio, and AP Chem. Mine says:

“Fall 07 exam credit:
Intro Bio–5h–CR
Gen chem 1–3h–CR
Gen chem 2–3h–CR
Calc 1–5h–CR”

I used AP credit for bio and calc but decided to take chemistry. So, under the appropriate semester headings, my transcript says “Gen chem 1–3h–(grade)” and “Gen chem 2–3h–(grade)”

Couldn’t have mattered much (if at all), all things considered.

This wasn’t a question for my son, so his transcript won’t indicate anything.

Kristin…

In your example, it looks like you were given double credit…credit for Gen Chem from AP and credit from actually taking the class. I would have thought that the AP credits would have gone to zero after taking the actual Chem class.

D2 receives AP credit AND college course credit for the same class. D1’s school does not give credit for both, but if you take a class that you also qualified for AP, both are listed but the credits don’t add up for graduation credits. Each school treats it differently.
