Some of my target schools (like UNC) claim they superscore the ACT. However, I’m wondering what they will think about my scores. My science the 2nd time around was terrible for me:
1st Try: 30 Eng, 32 Math, 28 Reading, 33 Science… Composite: 31
2nd Try: 35 Eng, 34 Math, 34 Reading, 25 Science… Composite: 32
My superscore is a 34. Do you think the terrible science score the 2nd time will worsen my application/ACT score in their eyes?
I guess my first question would be what happened to science. Also HOW did you improve in English and Reading SO much? PLEASE tell me your secret!
I find the science score particularly puzzling since you can obviously do Science and usually people who can do reading and are not afraid of Science will do well on Science. One thing I noticed about the ACT, if you are trying to improve in one section, you still have to work and practice the other sections otherwise your score will go down. It seems to be a use it or lose it.
Can you look over your test to make sure you did not misbubble which threw off your answers? That is a very odd result. Do they have the option of hand scoring your test? Did you get your answers back and look at them?
Are you interested in STEM? Science may matter there.
Are you applying to any schools that do not have score choice? Where you have to send in every test? If you are NOT then I think I would take it again. If you are then you will have to weigh the risk of doing worse on other sections.
I have no idea how any college will look at it. I think you did very well the second time, I think it is a much better score overall. However, I do not think it gives the same feeling as a 34 in one sitting. I could be wrong on this since I do not know UNC. However, my gut feeling is if you can get a 34 in one sitting you are better off but your scores are very respectable.
Idk what happened in science. I took way too much time at the beginning and had to rush through the last 10 questions so I probably got most of those wrong. As for English, I took like 3 practice tests and analyzed my mistakes. And time was a problem the first time in Reading so I just went faster. And yeah I might take it again… still deciding
