What will colleges think when they see a pretty big jump (roughly 200 to 300 points) on the SATs? I've jumped a little more than 200 points between the end of Junior year and the beginning of Senior year.

Well first, congrats to you!

Anyway, I don't think they'll think too much of it, they'll just look at your high scores

What would they think if they saw low scores though? Can they just ignore them? Would they look at it the same way for someone who has gotten the same high score twice?

By the way, thanks! I've been studying a lot over the summer. At first I thought it was futile and it was something you were innately born with, but I'll have to prove it to myself come Oct. 8th.. wish me luck! :)

they'll just think you had a bad day on the first test date

The thing is, I've gotten relatively the same score twice (about 70 points improvement on the second testing but relatively the same). I didn't study before or between each test day, and I just really got motivated by the end of the year. So, I basically went on an SAT prep frenzy, where I devoted 2 to 3 hours each day studying, taking tests, etc. I spread this out for about 15 weeks (lately it's been an average of about 1 hour per day), so it wasn't just cramming. I really feel confident that I will do much better by the October test.

Any thoughts?

from what i understand the admissions ppl have assistants who summarize applications in terms of class standing, strength of school, aps, sat scores, grades, etc.

i think they just write down top scores so the ppl making the decision never actually see the lower scores.

I just have a quick question about SAT score sending also.
I will be rushing my Nov. SAT II scores to my ED school. Will they receive November test scores and all other test scores as well? I want them to see my AP score, is this a separate fee?

I will take another SAT II in December for all of my RD schools. When I send my SAT II score to four of them (max without any extra fee), they will see all my past SAT scores, etc. When these are sent, will they become a part of my whole application at their school? So I will not have to worry about ever sending them SAT scores again if that is the last time I'm taking it?

Thanks

Rabble, I don't think you need to rush them.

does rushing make any difference for rolling schools?

The only people who care about "unusual" point increses is the College board. If a score goes up over a certain percentage they will flag it & investigate. That is why the test proctor is required to fill out a seating chart, etc. If your score increases by too much they compare your answers to those who sat around you. They have the right to invalidate the score if they strongly suspect some one cheated. If your score hasn't been flagged you have nothing to worry about!!!!

I think I am required to rush them. When I rush my November scores, that ensures that the college will also see my past scores, correct?

csdad,

Will colleges even really care about how many times I take the SAT II? By October I will have taken the SAT II a total of 6 times (twice in 2 subjects and once in two other subjects). By December, I will have taken it 7 times (twice in 3 subjects and once in one subject). Will this be bad? I feel as though I've taken the SATs too many times..

krabble:

Even tho they may only require two subject tests, colleges actually prefer to see subject tests in multiple subjects. Thus, high scores in the third and fourth test can only be a plus factor.

As long as you don't take the same test 6+ times (CB says the scores don't marginally improve after 3), colleges won't care. However, one author said that one school (Wes?) started to average the tests after 3 (if I recall correctly).

I probably won't be taking any SATs more than twice. I would take subject tests in different areas, but I really don't feel that I would do very well. I've taken AP USH I (up to the Gilded Age), but I do not remember much of it. I've taken the chemistry SAT II and I plan on re-taking the Math 2 in November and the physics in December. I'm not very good at Spanish either (This year is my 5th year and I'm taking the AP class for it, but my Spanish is not nearly good enough to get a good score on the SAT II).
I plan on going into the science field when in college, so I'm hoping my science/math oriented scores will be a plus, even though they'd probably like to see some history or language also. Thanks for the responses
