I'm currently enrolled in Volleyball as my 6th (my last) period of the day. I'm on the Varsity team and have been for two years now. I applied to many privates of high caliber, such as Duke, Columbia, Princeton, Yale, Georgetown, etc. In my 150 word Common App essay, and I believe in maybe one or two other supplementals, I wrote about how volleyball showed a different side of my personality, and how it has taught me to balance my time and develop work-ethic. If I quit the team and drop the 6th period, will any of those colleges care?

I’m assuming that you’re a senior! There shouldn’t be any huge repercussions in dropping an EC activity because to be honest there isn’t any way for them to find out anyway. You’re getting your letter in like two weeks.

Won’t the college I go to see that volleyball isn’t there when they see my final grade report?

You definitely have to report any changes in your schedule to the admissions office. I don’t know if it would impact their decisions, especially after they’ve already accepted you. I doubt they would accept you just because you play volleyball.

I just thought that since I wrote about it in some of my essays that they would look and say that I was BSing it.

Any help is appreciated! Please this is rather important.

Do you get graded for Volleyball? If not, then who cares?

Furthermore, do you really think that a college is going to go out of its way to REVOKE your admission because you dropped volleyball?

In short, they won’t say anything unless it’s coupled with a major drop in grades, a suspension for academic dishonesty and several DUIs.

I do get a grade for volleyball. It shows up on my transcript as an A. It still doesn’t matter?

Anyone else?

you get graded for volleyball? wow, how is it not possible to get an “A”, must be an easy class, OR maybe if you smack the ball at your coach’s face you get a letter down, hmmm fascinating :)

what?!!? Colleges don’t really care that much. You are just a number, it’s not like they know who you are. Is the college gonna marry you? Is there a prenup?
