My parents dont really like the idea of me doing volleyball this year (I am a senior). But I didn't play it freshman year, I've played since 10th grade (grades 10-11). If I decide not to do it this year, how will colleges view me? Will they think I'm inconsistent? (As I already didn't play any sport my freshman year).

Also, how do colleges view 'varsity' high school sports in general, especially if one is not a team captain?

Do you take volleyball as a class, or is it before/after school? At my son's school, all sports (plus cheer, dance and marching band) are "double blocked" classes, meaning they have them every day during school hours....they take up 2 of their 8 classes. Because this counts as just a "regular" grade (meaning a 100 in volleyball class equals a 90 in an AP classes), lots of the very top students at our school drop their sport their senior year and add two AP classes, to give their GPA a boost in hopes of being at the very top of the class.

I think if you could play in college (and would want to), you should continue. If your passions are elsewhere, and if you can show that you spent the time doing something more worthwhile for you and your future, I don't think it will matter if you drop it.

Some on CC will say that you should never make a change like that, as it could raise red flags (consistency and sticking with something being better). If as a whole your application file shows a lot of jumping around, stay put. If dropping something is not typical for you (and if it is for a good reason), I don't see a problem. Students do need to live for themselves (not just for college admissions).
