So, Next year I plan on doing stuff over the summer. Should I study with JSA at Princeton (or Yale, or Georgetown) or should I do boys state? I could really only do one, because of my job and football, and am interested in both. Which one would you think colleges would prefer? I am a prospective international relations/public policy major. I also plan on going to the Princeton, and maybe, Yale football camps, among others. Thanks!

I don’t know which one colleges would prefer, but if I were you, I’d take Boys State.

Alright, I know someone who did it, and he loved it. I think it’s also cheeper.

Well, something “cheeper” certainly sounds interesting. :)

I also know someone who did Boys State; he said it was one of the best experiences of his life.

I think I might do that. I know a few teachers who would nominate me. Plus, if I can get into one of the higher positions, that would look great.

I did Girl’s State and…cheaper? For me it was ** free **. Completely paid for by the local post. I hope that it’s the same for you!

Really? I thought you just had someone nominate you and you footed the bill.

Well, my district held interviews and I was one of five people in my county picked out, for example. Maybe each state/district/post runs it differently; I’m not sure.
Anyhow, I had a * great * experience, and I’m effusive even about it now (more than a year later). I took the dual enrollment course offered at the community college in concordance with the camp as well in addition to being elected a “Senator”; I was voted “Most Outstanding Senator”. Also, on a separate note, I’m actually rooming with a girl that I met from Girl’s State. It was truly a fantastic experience for me and I highly recommend it to anybody who has the opportunity to attend.

I went to Girls State and it was one of the best weeks of my life. It was amazing.

think about what fits more with the big picture of who you are. where are there more opportunities for leadership?

Which one would you think colleges would prefer?

Do not think of it that way. Think of what YOU would prefer, what you think you would enjoy more. You will get a lot more out of it if you genuinely enjoy your activity.

I actually just came back from boys statE this past week, and can attest to all that has been said. I truly value the experience and all that I learned, and my school made it seem like colleges really appreciate, which made it all the better.

Pick Boys State.

topasala, I would like either one, I have no idea which to pick. I think I will do boys state.
