I recently applied and was accepted to the Boy's State program of VA. I'm kinda excited to go, but I'm regretting not going to a Govenor's School instead. I feel like that was more what I wanted to do, but I was told that Boy's State look better for college admissions. I guess just from a college standpoint, which one would look better?

I have always discouraged my kids from making decisions based on what some future committee might consider important.

I’m not familiar with Boy’s State, but Governor’s School might come with some guarantees (admission to public colleges/honors programs or generous scholarships) that would tip the scales.

Absent guarantees however, I would recommend going with the program that interests you more.

Both are prestigious. My best friend went to Boys State, and all he could remember from the experience was “don’t drop the soap”. I went to neither and we got accepted to and attended the same Ivy League college.

Here in NJ, we were told Governor’s School would look better. Boys State is a 5 night program with an emphasis on civic issues while our Governor’s School in the Sciences is a 3 week program with actual coursework, labs, etc. I am not sure how things are run in VA.
Good luck to you!

I HOP[E TO GOD YOU CHOOSE THE GOVENOR’S SCHOOL. I went to my state’s govenor school and i have older friends who went to the governor school and boys state and they say boys state is FAR INFERIOR to the governor school. I am betting I will reach the same conclusion upon my attendance to boys state
