GL!

leroy (and anybody else)--

what do you think about:

SAT I -- 750 CR; 690 M; 720 W
SAT II -- 800 (Bio M); 780 US Hist.
GPA -- 4.15/4.3 UW (school doesn't weight or rank)

Sounds pretty amazing to me ... 800? lol nice. I wouldnt know the first thing about US history... What hobbies do you have/ Ec's?

Leroy --

How nice of you to answer so promptly. The message concerns my
daughter actually. Her EC's/hobbies concentrate mainly around the performing arts. In a nutshell:

Gifted singer (OK, I'm her mom, but she has many awards and will major in music or theatre) -- active in every singing group on campus, section leader, etc -- selective vocal ensembles, chorus, sweet adelines (like barbershop only for girls)

Winner of Musical Theatre Award -- Does About 4 productions regionally each year in musical theatre, and at high school, some professional work, including voice over book recordings

Studies classical dance (12 years) -- Member of School Dance Repertory Co. (many hours a week) --

Community Service -- co-produced a student musical with all proceeds to Hurricane Katrina victims; tutors through National Honor Society

Summers: Every summer has been spent devoted to musical theatre at one university's program or another -- she is passionate about it (Tufts has great theatre and a double degree voice program with New England Conservatory)

Other:
National Honor Society
National Merit Something
Chemistry Award (2005)
English Award (2004)
Verbeck Award for Oustanding Scholarship (Every Year)
Other awards, etc.

haha i canceled my ush
so would i have to take more then? (except the next time would be nov anyway, which is too late for ed?)
thx :]

I would say your daughter has a very good chance indeed. Excellent test scores, fantastic EC's... also she sounds unique - like she has that extra element to her that many kids do not...I also love theatre, drama, film and have made two films myself :) so i understand the passion there.

Good luck with everything.. where you from anyway?

Sydney, Australia here.

if you are interested in Tuft's, I would go behind the scenes and talk with professors or athletic coaches etc...Worm your way in, is what I'm saying...It is a small school, near a very popular city...that is hotter than hot...Go for it!!! (my d1 was rejected...but we still liked the school and the tour...in the pouring rain!)

manuelo, your daughter has a good shot at admissions. If she writes good essays on her college apps, I would be surprised if she didnt get into Tufts.

7up, unless you're an under-represented minority, you'll definately need to raise those SAT scores to become competitive in admissions. You don't need any more SAT IIs, but you should retake either Biology and Chemistry, or both.

ClutchBaller and Leroy,

Thanks so much for your responses. We're actually from Upstate New York, about 5 hours from Boston ( where we are going this weekend to visit). Personally, I'd rather live in Sydney, where I've never been, but have heard it's fantastic. Have friends who live there and they absolutely love it. Good luck both of you.

minority, not that underrepresented [asian]
maybe if i do realli well on sats in oct that'll help b/c i forgot all my chem/bio
ty both!

I think you'll be ok, how are your extra currics.... and as long as you get above a 2100, you have chances.

All these stats are good, but there are cases (like mine) in which you get rejected or wait-listed with comfortably above-average stats.

My stats were

4.26 WGPA 4.00 UWGPA (Top 10%)

SAT 680CR 780M 690W 2150 Total
SAT II 790M2 710USH 800KOR 650 LIT
ACT 31
+ Load of EC's

I was really bummed when I got WL'd because I thought I had a really good chance at Tufts, but I'm over it now. Plus I got an awesome scholarship deal at AU, so I'm not gonna complain.

"Comfortably above-average stats"

Well, that's why you were waitlisted/denied --> b/c your stats were above avg, not top (and I say this in a very kind sense). For the vast majority of colleges, your stats are great - but at Tufts, as with other elite colleges, they are in the avg. Thus, as w/ the Ivies, Stanford, UChicago, et al, they're going to look at other, less definable factors (i.e. leadership, maturity, passion, focus, drive, essays, etc etc).

Notice that my stats were similar to the stats of the person who posted this thread. Everyone started to talk about how great a chance she has, so I was just counter-arguing with my own example. If it came out as if I was bragging about my stats, I apologize (I wasn't b/c I got wait-listed anyway...who brags about that?). BTW my stats aren't even that great.

Yeah, so my point is, that stats aren't everything as I got WL'd with scores in the 80th~85th percentile. And if Tufts thought I lacked leadership, maturity, drive, and other intangible factors, well, I'm out to prove it wrong, lol.

gluck at AU, swmass! [i assume you're going there?]

o well i'll just see what happens colleges are so unpredictable xP
