what would you do if you were me...

I'm an international applicant from Canada.. my concern is in regards to my midyear report... I got a B in english honors 10 & 11 accelerated in 10th grade.. 2% away from an A. (86 - 100 in BC, and trust me, none in my grade of 400 has straight As since 9th. and my school is highly academic, has biggest ap program in canada) then i got a b AGAIN in term 1, in eng lit ap.. again 2% away from an A... but i did get an A last year.. and the highest mark in the class for Eng lituerature 12 honors in 11th grade... the bad thing is, my school has the system that when a student takes ap eng lit, they get TWO COURSES on the transcript, ap eng lit, and ENG 12... what they do is they raise the eng ap mark by 3% to give the eng 12 mark.. so i only have 87 for eng 12.. 1% above an A... THIS is not my true ability at all... if i had been in eng 12 reguar, i could have easily gotten over 92%....

the previous eng ap teacher who has taught for 15 years of AP retired this year.. so this new teacher is around 8 years older than i am, and completely doesnt know what she is doing.... she is not really consistent with her marking and plays favors... members of the class wrote her an anonymous note, but she passed it around the class "ask us to sign or else she will ignore it." lol how immature? i dont want to complain.. but its just my situation is so perculiar.. how would u deal with it? eng is my weakness already.. and the b just compounded it...

what do you think i should do in my case? i havnt sent in my mid year reports yet.. i am thinking of asking my eng teacher to do a print out of my second term mark as of now, hopefully its higher than 84% and 87%... otherwise, ive had straight As.. im really worried... gosh....

to give u some background, i got 740 on writing. 690 on verbal frist try, i retook in jan, i dont know the score yet...

you really need an introduction,PW? on the princeton forum of all places? :p

Ok, if I were you, I'd ask the GC to use the opportunity to "modify my original recommendation" (you know the additional info section of the midyear) and state what you think they should know. This will be great cuz it will be official. However, this would work only if you're on good terms with your GC. If not, I think you can probably get your previous English teacher to send in a letter emphasizing this fact (hey, deferral reversal - anything goes!) and letting em know of your abilities in English. :) Hope this helped.

Good call, Merc.

PW.....we know u like a ummm i dunno =D hehe. i was gona say something witty but nothing came out :( but yes merc rocks at giving advice. im good at just posting some random comments to boost my post count =D

yeah. me and my GC are on very good terms.. she thinks highly of me for some reason and she knows me well even though my class has 400 students.... kinda weird..

so should i ask to to write about how we have a new inexperienced ap teacher? or just how the grade is not a clear reflection of my abilities?

my school work on a trimester system.. so im TRYING to get a mid second trimester report from my english teacher... and include that in with my midyear report.. how does that sound?

How does your senior 1st term English grade compare with the grades in the rest of your class, PW?

If you had one of the highest grades, that would be a really good thing for the GC to note in your report.

i had 84, the highest was 89 i think. lowest is in the low 70s i guess i could try... the class USED to have over 50 ppl - two classes. then everyone hated my teacher. so NOW we have 21!!!!! the other 30ish have already dropped out due to ... low grades...

ok. i have to say this again.... that record num of applicants? its murder.

Yeah, murder is the word. =/

But definitely have your GC mention it if your grade was only slightly under the highest in the class....and if possible, that a huge %age of the class dropped the course. It will make you look good for staying in the course when most people didn't.

ayn?! was it really such a good advice?

and, murder is infact a weaker word... i remember ppl were saying things like "the RD round is gonna be a massacre" back in november.....

yeah muder is for small scale destruction while massacre .... :D

..... since the other one is so filled up, ill say it here...
come to think of it... we shouldnt worry too much. esp if we got deferred ED. Princeton will be a bit more concerned with yield this year... but it will definitely be A LOT harder.... sigh :( dont lose hope...

if you were me, would you send in your midyear report as last as possible, hopefully that they wont use it in their decisions? or would you send it in asap, if you think these grades will help? just generally to other schools, since for pton i have to send it asap anyway

AP ENG LIT B 84
AP FRENCH LAN A 89
AP ECONOMICS A 91
AP ART HISTORY A 93
AP COMP SCI A 95
AP STATISTICS A 100
ENG 12 A 87
FRENCH 12 A 89
BIOLOGY 12 A 90

As long as the midyear report is required, I don't think it matters if you send this asap or wait til later because unless you're a def admit, they'll proabably look at this report before making a decision.

as if in if you don't send the report quickly, they'll wait for it before making a decision.
