What would you do?

I got into UT McCombs, and Rutgers College Honors Program. UT was definitely going to be my choice until I got the letter saying they are increasing tuition for out of state students almost 70% over the next 2 years. My parents said if I went to Rutgers which will only cost 11k, they will pay for my grad school wherever I go. Will I still be able to get a good job to lead me to a top 10 MBA program from Rutgers if I maintain a 3.6+ GPA? Or should I stick with the safer, but much more expensive route going to McCombs?

This is one of those questions only you can answer. Personally I would stay at Rutgers (which I presume is closer to your current home), go to their honors college and then move on to a good MBA program. Rutgers is no slouch and you'll get a good business education there. But if you are the type who will wonder all the rest of your life if you made the right decision and who will regret not having gone to the higher rated college at the undergraduate level, then you should go to Texas--but be willing to pay your own way to MBA school.

You know very few high school students understand how long it takes to save the money needed for grad school or to pay off undergraduate loans. Go talk to a few people who have been out of school for about 2 to 3 years and who still are paying off their school loans. Ask their opinions and I would bet the ratio of those suggesting Rutgers' Honors over Texas would be about 5 to 1. Ask high school students and the ratio will probably be 1:1 or even 2:3. In other words, your parents are offering you a good deal.
