<p>Macalester in St. Paul, Minnesota is routinely said to have the hardest, "best," and most prestigious economics department for a LAC. When I was on campus, there was a debate about massive grade inflation at Macalester. I was told that economics majors actually experience "grade deflation" compared to the rest of the LAC's economics programs. Graduates from Macalester are often placed in top positions in companies, or in Ivy League grad schools. </p>
