I have a friend with a ukulele. I haven’t thought a thing of it.

Well, some of these comments do reveal the inherent annoyances of playing instruments in college.

You usually don’t play well unless you’ve played badly…a lot. It’s called practicing.

Yet people in dorms have very low tolerance for people practicing instruments, especially instruments that aren’t “cool”, like acoustic guitar or ukulele. A girl on my floor once told a girl who was practicing scales quietly on her flute (in a different room, with the door closed, down the hall) to stop playing because she “couldn’t concentrate on her hw.” It was like 3 in the afternoon. Go the f-ing library you jerk. Oh, same “boo hoo I can’t do my hw girl” shamelessly watches TV loudly, talks loudly with her friends, gets ****-faced and loud on weekends at odd hours, etc. And these things are “acceptable” yet instruments aren’t…it’s so sad how productive activity is often hated on in the university environment and absolutely stupid and useless behavior is socially condoned. Oh well.
