It has been a while since I have been on here, so I am glad I remember my password!
Anyway, I picked up learning musical instrument the summer before my second year at university (which I will leave for soon!) but I was wondering if it was too weird or strange to bring to campus (in fear of being judged, haha)
It is a balalaika. If you haven’t heard or seen one, i inserted a link to a picture below because i am too lazy to explain X)
hopefully the link works…
I like sound of it but based solely on looking at it, would people think it’s really weird compare to a guitar or a ukelele I see other students play?
Thank you for the replies in advance! ^^
Personally, if I was on campus and saw you sitting somewhere playing this, I’d come up to you and ask you questions about it. I love hearing and learning about musical instruments from all over the world. My university even has a world music club specifically for musicians who play more unconventional instruments such as this. I’d definitely bring it. One of the points of a university is to be exposed to diverse culture and cultural expression from all around the world. This is a prime example of engaging with this diversity.
YES! Bring it! I love all manner of weird instruments and this does not top the weird list (Persian dulcimer, on the other hand…). Balalaika is really cool and would be a great conversation starter, especially if you play it well. Look into whether your school has traditional music groups.
