What's a film production major do?

I've been thinking about my major recently and one of the majors that popped into my head is Film and Video Production majors. I really enjoy video editing, writing, and film in general, it's always been something I've loved. The only thing is, I'm not exactly sure what they do and what I would be doing once I graduate? Can anyone help me fill that question?

Edit: I just realized how confusing the topic title sounds, should be "What does a film production major do?"

The truth is a film major guarantees nothing once you graduate. There is the option of graduate school if you have the money but have to learn to run before you can crawl. It is whatever you make it, but believe me everyone who get accepted into these schools are doing just that and then some. If you really want this you have to prove it with your work. They say you don’t need previous experience but with the film world today it’s becoming necessary. Work, mess up, learn and repeat. It will be the hardest thing you do in your life but the most satisfying. If its your true passion it will be worth the pain. I still have to prove to myself how bad I want this. Keeps me working hard, keeps me relevant. Trust me I’ve been there before(your position) but I will be at ucla this fall for film and it was worth the hard work. Don’t wait for someone to make you the expert, we have the Internet, become the expert or atleast walk around trying to be one. But it’s all a learning process. Just keep it!

Film production can be any aspect: cinematography, screenwriting, editing, directing, and a host of other jobs- gaffer, electric, etc…
Film studies is the study of film and its critique.
HOWEVER… different schools classify production differently. Google the terms: you’ll get a lot of info. Also, look at the websites of schools you might be interested in and see what they cover in production.
