I got back my March SAT scores, and I did well in writing (770) but only got a 9 on the essay. This is weird for me because I'm typically a good writer. What is considered to be a good score for an SAT essay? I am looking at Ivy League and other prestigious schools, so what kind of scores do they expect, and do I need to retake the SAT just for the essay?

What was your multiple choice score? I got a 77/80 and a 9 on the essay and got a 760 on Writing.

I have no idea what to think…
I got a 2260 total and am more than happy with my score, but the essay…9?
I got a 77 MC score and ended up with a 760.

I am also applying to really prestigious schools, therefore I don’t know whether I should take it again because of the essay portion.

That’s strange-I also got a 77 and a 9 but ended up with a 770 (I hope that’s not a mistake!).

I really don’t want to take the SAT again because I got a great score, but I heard that they sometimes look at the essay or use the score in admissions, and I’m not sure a 9 is good enough for the really prestigious schools.

Well a really SAT essay is a 12 of course =P!!!

what are you guys talking about!!! 9 is REallY GooD!!! if u consider that it’s being graded by two different people!! and each gives u a grade over 6…then u got 5 and 4 ( cuz 3 and 6 is extremily our of proportion and would need further review as in a 3rd corrector) so u got 4 out of 6 …not bad… and 5 out of 6 outstanding!(ok really good fits better:P) !!!colleges usually focus on the total score if u got 750+ over 800 u should be more then happy :)…oh and it also depends on the major your looking into…a math major wont need more then approximately 7 or 8 on the essay…it only makes sens…well at least that’s how it supposed to work :P

you beat my 6. haha
