what's cross-listed mean?

-physics for future presidents c10 is cross-listed with Letters & Science c70v. both of those have different CCN# and the enrollment #'s are different.
-the classes start at the same time and at the same place but the number of people enrolled is different.

-ex: for the lecture (there's only one lecture):
the Letters & Science c70v:
Limit:252 Enrolled:124 Waitlist:0 Avail Seats:128

whereas the Physics for Future Presidents c10 lecture:
Limit:252 Enrolled:189 Waitlist:0 Avail Seats:63

-how can this be? how do you choose which class if it's cross-listed? is it just in the name?

-HELP! - from a confused & stressed freshie :(

They are the same exact class. It doesn't matter which one you sign up for. You will receive the same credit no matter what you enroll in. I think the only difference is the name will be different on your transcript.

Crosslisted classes are exactly the same, and are "simultaneously" offered by two department, if you will. Whether you signed up for L&S C70 or Phy C70, you will go to the same classroom, have the same professor, HW, midterm...you name it. The enrollment number is different because the quota reserved for each department is different.

Example: Mech Eng C105B = BioEng C105B
Let's say the class has 150 seats. 80 seats are reserved for the Mech Eng major, another 40 seats are for Bio Eng major, so the number may show up differently.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's basically the idea.
