What's exactly a good SAT score ?

I took the sat for the first time in May, as an intl., and since then, I heard a lot of stuff about what a good sat score really is. So let's say it, I'm pretty confused. What would you say about it ?

A good score in general I would say is an 1800+. But for this board’s standards I would say about 2200+

1800+ will land you in many good schools.
2100+ will land you into topnotch/ivys.

700 plus in each section is good, so yea 2100

For most people a “good” score is 1800.

However, on here it seems that a “good” score seems to be a 2200. If you get a 2200 you’re set for the Ivies SAT wise. Of course, there are many other factors.

But yeah, don’t be depressed if you don’t have a 2200. I “only” got a 2060 so far, so I feel like an idiot on here.

But here’s a tip: study beforehand! If you can prepare a month before you’ll do well.
The first time I took the SAT I studied CR a week before and my CR score was in the 700’s, my math in the low 600’s.
The second time I took it I studied math a week before and my math score was in the 700’s and CR was in the mid-600’s.

And don’t believe you can’t improve your score. That’s BS. If you take Spanish or French you’ll do fine on vocab.

And essays= speed-writing.

Thank you all for your answers, I was going a little nuts (after the test, I thought I did great but the CC Effect got me and I started doubting myself). I’ll just try to think about the SAT II I’m going to take and try to relax until May 22nd (or is it 21st ?).

yankeedoodle > I’d love to take French, but since it’s my mother tongue, I can’t --". Never done any spanish either, and the only other language I’m learning, besides English, is Deutsch, which isn’t provided for the Subject Tests. As for the essay, it was the part I feared the most, thought it turned out fine until I read threads about it here. Will be glad to get a 3 :(.

I got a 2050 but I didn’t do any preparation whatsoever and I only took it once my junior year of high school for ****s and giggles. I probably should have prepped, could’ve gotten a good score. It doesn’t matter I guess, I don’t aspire to join an ivy league school anyway. Would have been curious to see waht I could have gotten though. Another friend of mine got a 2350. He didn’t prep either, dumbass works at walmart.

A good SAT score is one that is above the average for a specific college. So, for top tier schools like HYPSM, a “good” SAT score would be 2250+.

I didn’t study in a HS in America, studied SAT for only a week and only got 1910.

But will retake in June becoz its really not a good score for top notch schools, so take note.

An APPROXIMATE answer to your question can be found in a thread that points out, as must be pointed out, that many other issues besides test scores influence college admission in the United States.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/413821-sat-score-frequencies-freshman-class-sizes.html

2400 duh! jk

Mehhhhh… That’s a good question. I would say a good score for “pretty good schools” would be an average of 650 on each section. A good score for “Top/Ivy schools” would be around 750 on each section. But this should make things easier:

-1000-1450—> You’re in trouble.
-1460—>1650 You’re getting there.
-1660—>1800 You’re starting to show some potential.
-1810—>2000 You’re getting the hang of it.
-2010---->2150 You officially did WELL.
-2160+ You’re in VERY good shape for top 10 schools.

Well it sort of depends on the school duh  But also can depend on what you want to major in. For example a 770 is a very good math score, but at somewhere like Cal Tech it is considered low.

^It’s not considered low, even at Caltech. That Could be one mistake.

hhaha pshhhh 800 is a low math score for caltech

850 is a low score for Caltech. I don’t think I’ll be retaking it, though. [2120 - top25 schools]

Great: 2300+
Very Good: 2200+
Good: 2100+
Solid: 1800+
Study hard and try again: 1500+

Average person going to college: 1500

…

Just thought I’d point that out.

Isn’t the average score on the SAT a little over 1500?

I guess it has risen a little over the years, that was an approximation.
