"The University has just approved a new set of requirements for Economics Majors!
Soon a full description of these changes will be posted on this website"

Yeah, I've been checking the Econ site for a couple of weeks, but it still says this. Does anybody have a scoop on whats going on? Is the major supposed to be harder now or something? Also, whats your opinion on the major, is it any good?

the new requirements are a little harder, i guess, depending on how good or bad at calculus you are. i just went for my advising session and this is basically what's going on:

The old requirements were Intro to Micro and Macro Econ (ECON200 and 201) then Intermediate Micro and Macro (ECON305 and 306), among other things. Now what you do is take ECON200 and 201 and take ECON325 and ECON326 instead of ECON305 and 306. ECON325 and 326 are designed to include more calculus, which is great, just great for those of us who failed prealgebra. Also, they added this new course called ECON300 which is required so you learn the stuff tools for dealing with harder, higher-level courses. As far as I know, there aren't any extra courses, just a shuffling around of the current fare. Good luck. The Econ department here is pretty good.

P.S. They're just trying to make it more challenging to get the major. According to my advisor, people have been getting away with murder.

lol, really the major used to be that easy to get?!? I took calculus this year and I never did homework or nothing and like studied right before quizes and tests and junk and got by with Cs. I mean there were times where I had to study for a test if I didn't want to get a D in the class and in one case, I ended up getting a B on a test to pull my grade up to a C, so I know that I'm able to do good in Calculus if I study and try. Anyways, I going to have to take Calculus again because I know I'm not going to get any credit for the AP exam. So I guess these new requirements aren't bad and I already did plan to take quite a few math classes, so I guess I'll be alright in the new courses.
